Occupation only for Thai


According to the first line of Article 7 of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers issued in 2017, and the second version of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers issued in 2018, a total of 40 jobs restricting foreign participation are listed, which are divided into four categories. The specific content is as follows:
Category I: 27 occupations prohibited to foreigners:
1、 Woodcarving
2、 Motor vehicle driving (excluding forklifts)
3、 Auction
4、 Jewelry Design
5、 Barber/Beauty Salon Services
6、 Hand woven
7、 Make mats or vessels woven from reeds, vines, straw, bamboo, chicken feathers, fibers, etc.
8、 Handmade mulberry paper
9、 Lacquerware production
10. Traditional Thai musical instrument making
11. Production of black silver inlaid utensils
12. Making of gold/silver/diamond bronze
13. Stone making
14. Thai Doll Making
15. Monks' Bowl Making
16. Handmade Silk
17. Buddha statue making
18. Paper/fabric joint
19. Intermediary/Agent
20. Thai massage
21. Cigarette roll
22. Tour Guide
23. Selling at a stall
24. Typesetter
25. Women twisting silk (twisting work)
26. Secretary
27. Legal Services


Category 2: Work that only allows nationals of countries with agreements with Thailand or work in accordance with international agreements and Thai laws. There are three types of professions:
1. Accounting profession
2. Engineer profession
3. Architect profession

Category III: Foreigners can only work for employers in technical or semi technical jobs. For example:
1. Agriculture
2. Tile/Carpenter/Builder
3. Making a mattress
4. Knife making
5. Shoe making
6. Hat making
7. Clothing Manufacturing
8. Making ceramics


Category IV: Foreigners can only engage in the work that the employer has been admitted to Thailand according to the Immigration Law (MoU) of the Memorandum of Understanding or is required to prohibit foreigners from engaging in. There are two categories:
1. Labor Work
2. Store front desk sales


What would happen if this law is violated?

If foreign workers are found working without permission, they will be fined 5000 to 50000 baht and deported. Employers will also be fined, with a fine of 10000 to 100000 baht for each foreign worker hired. If the offense is repeated, a fine of 50000 to 200000 baht and imprisonment for up to one year will be imposed, and the employment of foreign workers will be prohibited for three years.
